MLB BASEBALL – INDIANS WIN SERIES OPENER IN CANADA

Cleveland beat Toronto 7-3 last night

-Oscar Mercado had a solo home run and a triple while driving in 2 runs.  Francisco Lindor also knocked in 2 runs for the Indians.

-Mike Clevinger picked up the win (4-2) on the mound; allowing 3 runs on 5 hits in 7 innings while striking out 7 and walking 2.

-The Indians and Blue Jays play again tonight at 6:35/7:07 pm – LIVE on 95.3 WLKR.  Trevor Bauer pitches tonight for the Tribe.  Tonight’s game will have no local TV coverage, as it will be broadcast exclusively on YouTube. 

MLB BASEBALL – OTHER FINAL SCORES OF INTEREST FROM MONDAY

Minnesota defeated the New York Yankees 8-6 (The Twins turned a triple play in the 1st inning)

-The Indians remain 3 games back of the Twins in the AL Central. 

Boston beat Tampa Bay 9-4…..Houston defeated Oakland 11-1

Seattle topped Texas 7-3…..Cincinnati won 6-5 at Milwaukee

MLB BASEBALL NEWS – LINDOR WANTS EXTENDED NETTING, CASTELLANOS COMPLAINS

-Tribe All-Star shortstop Francisco Lindor told the media after Sunday’s game that he hopes all MLB teams extend their safety netting…this coming after Lindor lined a ball into the seats, striking and sending a 3-year old boy to the hospital.  The boy is reportedly in stable condition and doing good.

-Detroit Tigers’ right-fielder Nicholas Castellanos aired his frustration with the home of the Tigers, Comerica Park.  He told reporters after their game Sunday that “this park’s a joke” – referring to the 420-foot center field dimensions in Detroit, the deepest center field in all of baseball. Castellanos has been involved in trade rumors ahead of the July 31st trading deadline; including those with the Cleveland Indians.

NBA NEWS – LOVE DECIDING ON TEAM USA, DUNCAN BACK WITH SPURS, SASHI WITH WIZARDS

-Cleveland Cavaliers star Kevin Love is reportedly deciding on whether he’ll accept an invite to training camp for Team USA’s FIBA World Cup team in early August…likely to make that decision in the next few days; according to reports.

-Spurs legend Tim Duncan is reuniting with former head coach Greg Popovich in San Antonio.  The Spurs announced Monday that Duncan will be joining Popovich’s coaching staff as an assistant.  Duncan, who retired 3 seasons ago, played under Popovich for 19 seasons and a total of nearly 1,400 games; the most games together by a coach and one player in NBA history.

-Former Cleveland Browns GM Sashi Brown has a new job; as the Washington Wizards announced Monday that Brown is joining their front office as chief planning and operations officer.  Brown reportedly will be in charge of items such as finance, security, technology and player engagement. 

NFL NEWS – SEATTLE’S REED SUSPENDED

Seahawks defensive tackle Jarran Reed has been suspended by the NFL for the first 6 games of the season for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.

-The suspension is in connection with a domestic violence case in 2017 where Reed was accused of assault; but was never arrested or charged…Reed had a career year last season with 10 ½ sacks and 50 tackles.
