In high school volleyball tournament play last night…

-Galion defeated Willard in 4 sets and Huron beat Edison in 3 sets in the Division 3 District Semi’s at Seneca East High School.  It sets up a District Final on Thursday between 2-seed Huron and top-seed Galion.

This week’s high school football state computer playoff ratings have been released, entering Week Nine…

-The top eight in each region make the playoffs at the conclusion of the regular season.

-In Division 3/Region 10, Norwalk is first and Sandusky is third.

-In Division 4/Region 14, Clyde is seventh, Bellevue is eighth and Edison is ninth.

-In Division 5/Region 18, Oak Harbor is second.

-In Division 6/Region 22, Western Reserve is first, Seneca East is second and Ashland Crestview is ninth.

-In Division 7/Region 26, St. Paul is third and Plymouth is eleventh. 

In NFL news, the unbeaten Patriots have added a veteran wide receiver…

-New England has traded for Mohammed Sanu; sending a second-round draft pick to Atlanta.

In baseball, Game One of the World Series was last night with Washington defeating Houston 5-4

-Houston starting pitcher Gerrit Cole was roughed up for 5 runs and 8 hits over 7 innings of work.  Juan Soto drove in 3 runs for the Nats via a solo homer and 2-run double.

-Game Two is tonight in Houston at 8:00 pm. 

The NBA season tipped off last night with two matchups…

-Toronto topped New Orleans 130-122 in overtime.  Fred VanVleet and Patrick Siakam each scored 34 for the Raptors.

-The L.A. Clippers defeated the L.A. Lakers 112-102.  Kawhi Leonard led the Clippers with 30 points.  LeBron James had 18 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists for the Lakers.

The Cleveland Cavaliers open the regular season tonight in Orlando…

-The Cavs are in Orlando to take on the Magic; with pregame coverage at 6:30 and tipoff at 7:00 pm, live on 95.3 WLKR. 

In NBA news, Golden State will likely be without superstar Klay Thompson for all of this season. 

-Warriors head coach Steve Kerr told local media that Thompson “realistically” miss all this entire 2019-20 season while recovering from a torn ACL suffered in last year’s NBA Finals.
