National-Lorain County News/Pearl Harbor Day

It’s Pearl Harbor Day, and commemorations will be held across the country.

There will be a ceremony at 10:30 this morning at VFW Post 1079 in Elyria.


Erie County/Sandusky house fire

A family of five was able to escape a house fire Wednesday night in Sandusky.

The blaze reportedly broke out in the kitchen of the home on Columbus Avenue…possibly caused by a dog blanket igniting near a wood-burning stove.

Approximately $20,000 worth of damage was done to the house with property loss of around $5,000.


Erie County/EHOVE threat

Erie County authorities investigated an alleged threat at EHOVE Career Center in Milan Tuesday.

According to the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, a student allegedly wrote a threatening message on a board in a classroom.

Authorities say the boy later admitted to the threat.

The sheriff’s office says they’re not filing charges; describing their response as an “overabundance of caution”.


Huron County/Three people going to prison in plea deals

Three different people in separate cases have been sentenced to prison time in Huron County.

26-year-old Johnnie Hicks of Willard pled guilty to meth trafficking – resulting in a one-year prison sentence.

33-year-old Ashley Wormald of Norwalk pled guilty to meth trafficking; receiving a four-year prison term.

63-year-old Richard Banks of Cleveland received a punishment of nine months in prison for forgery.


State News/Lake Erie algal bloom lawsuit

The anti-pollution group, Advocates for a Clean Lake Erie, have sent a letter threatening to sue the U.S. EPA if they do not take further action to battle harmful algal blooms in Lake Erie.

They say they’ll file a lawsuit in 60 days if the U.S. EPA doesn’t decide whether the Ohio EPA is complying with what’s known as the Clean Water Act.


Erie County/New probation chief

Mike Frank is the new chief probation officer for Erie County.

Frank has spent over 30 years in law enforcement; working as Put-in-Bay’s police chief and spending time with the Sandusky PD.

He replaces Karen Volz, who worked for nearly 30 years with Erie County before retiring.


Erie County/Plans for former Keys Golf Course

The Huron Township zoning appeals board is holding a public meeting next Thursday, December 13th to address a proposal to build a 210-space RV campsite at the former Keys Golf Course on Boos Road.

The meeting will take place at BGSU Firelands in Mylander Hall at 7:30 pm.
