National News/Bush funeral – National Day of Mourning

Today has been designated a “National Day of Mourning”…as a funeral service will be held for former President George H W Bush.

Some government offices may be closed…

A funeral service will be held today for former President George Herbert Walker Bush.

President Bush died last week at the age of 94.


Huron County/Lordstown closure impact on Borgers

Will the Norwalk automotive industry supplier, Borgers Ohio, be impacted by the Lordstown GM plant closure early next year?

That’s to be determined…and its possible that it will have no impact at all, said plant manager James Cook in the Norwalk Reflector on Tuesday.

Borgers employs close to 300 workers with about 100 full-time positions expected to be added next year due to the closure of their Alabama plant.


Erie-Huron County/Wind energy project objectors

Those opposing the Emerson Creek Wind Project in Erie and Huron counties held a meeting Monday at the Bellevue VFW to discuss possible negative effects.

If approved, 65 to 85 wind turbines would be built.

The anti-wind turbine group says people will be left with land they can’t use due to the turbines…while the company developing the project says that’s a complete myth.


Huron County/Willard no Narcan for a month

Some good news in the fight against the opioid epidemic…

Willard City Manager Jim Ludban says the city did not use a single dose of Narcan in November.

That’s a significant decline.

In November of 2017, just over 100 doses of the opioid drug overdose antidote were administered to 12 patients.


Erie County/Health Department budget increasing

The Erie County Health Department recently approved their 2019 budget; which is scheduled to increase about 8 percent.

That would take it from $11.8 million to $12.8 million.

Employees salaries are going up 11 percent overall…after a 2 percent pay raise for most workers was agreed upon.


State News/Air Force jobs

More than 400 jobs are coming to Wright-Patterson Air Force base near Dayton.

The Air Force has chosen Wright-Patterson as the site for a new research-and-development mission.


Erie County/Perkins PD teaming with Children’s Services for Christmas

The Perkins Township Police Department is partnering again with Erie County Children Services this Christmas.

Cards with names of children and their wish lists are currently in the lobby of the police station.

Those wanting to participate are asked to take a card and bring back the items by Monday, December 10th.
