Erie County/Shootings have increased

An alarming number in Erie County…

Shootings in the county in 2018 have already exceeded the number from all of last year.

34 intentional or accidental confirmed shootings took place in 2017…39 so far in 2018.


Erie County/Sheriff’s Deputy involved in crash

An Erie County Sheriff’s Deputy was unhurt when his cruiser crashed into a ditch Saturday afternoon in Huron Township.

The Highway Patrol says Kyle Winebrenner sped up to catch a traffic violator when he lost control of his vehicle through a curve on Cleveland Road, west of Camp Road.

No other vehicles were involved.

The patrol says they don’t plan on citing Winebrenner since he was pursuing a violator.


Erie County/Teenager faces car theft charge

A Sandusky teenage boy has been charged with felony car theft after he allegedly took his mother’s vehicle on Saturday.

The 13-year-old from Campbell Street was taken to the Erie County Juvenile Justice Center after the car was found on Putnam Street.


Area News/Gibbs-Harbaugh debate tonight

U.S. Representative, Republican Bob Gibbs will debate Democratic challenger Ken Harbaugh this evening in Ashland.

It takes place at 7:00 pm at Ashland University’ Myers Convocation Center.

The district the candidates represent includes 10 north central Ohio counties; Huron County, Medina County and Lorain County being three of them.


Huron County/Gym roof project approved

A new roof will soon sit atop Haas Gymnasium at Willard High School.

School board members have approved a $200,000+ project bid that involves a 15-year warranty roof.

The roof had been experiencing some leakage problems.


State News/Patrol offers pedestrian safety tips ahead of Halloween

With many trick-or-treat events going on this week; the State Highway Patrol is reminding residents that pedestrian safety is a shared responsibility.

During the last five years, pedestrian-involved crashes have increased.

Over 13,000 pedestrian-involved crashes happened in Ohio from 2013 to 2017, resulting in nearly 600 fatalities and over 12,000 injuries.

The patrol says pedestrians were at fault in two-thirds of fatal crashes with improper crossing being the leading cause.


County/$2 million to New London for drinking water improvements

New London has been named one of eight northwest communities that will share over $9 million in funding from the state for drinking and wastewater improvements.

The village will receive $2.1 million that will go towards upgrades for their drinking water treatment plant; effected by harmful algal bloom contaminants.


Huron County/Norwalk new fire station open house

Norwalk’s new fire station on Whittlesey Avenue is near completion.

A ribbon cutting and public open house has been planned for November 15th at 5:00 pm.


Huron County/U.S. 250 roadwork 

Starting today in Huron County, U.S. 250 from State Route 162 to the Ashland County line will have single lane closures for a crack sealing project.

The project is expected to be complete by sometime in November.

Also…State Route 162, just west of State Route 61 in Huron County is now open; after previously being closed for bridge repairs.
