Huron County/Candidates for auditor discuss qualifications

One of the contested races in November in Huron County will be for County Auditor.

Each candidate recently offered these explanations on why you should vote for them.

Incumbent, Democrat, Roland Tkach spoke of his last 12 years of serving as auditor and his love for Huron County.

Challenger, Republican, Tom Dunlap said he’s the most well-rounded individual for the job due to his experience as county sheriff, running the EHOVE police academy and spending time as county commissioner.

The two took part in a “Meet the Candidates” event Wednesday at Senior Enrichment Services in Norwalk.

 

Erie County/Train death believed to be a suicide

A male pedestrian struck and killed by a train Thursday morning on Cleveland Road in Huron Township is believed to have been a suicide.

The Erie County Sheriff’s Office said the victim was a 72-year-old resident of The Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky.

The incident took place east of Cedar Point Road.

 

Erie County/Man in Perkins Township wanted in Las Vegas homicide

A 20-year-old man with a Perkins Township address has been served by Nevada Police with a warrant for one count of felony murder with a deadly weapon.

Artavius Robinson allegedly shot and killed a 45-year-old man last October while the victim was going to a morning church service in Las Vegas.

Authorities believe Robinson and his girlfriend then left Vegas on a bus after finding out he was a suspect…eventually arriving in Perkins Township.

Robinson was then arrested in July in Erie County; where he was charged with abduction and domestic violence…with police learning of his alleged involvement in the Vegas shooting.

 

Erie County/Alleged undocumented man arrested

A Guatemalan man allegedly in the country illegally was taken in by U.S. Border Patrol agents Thursday in Sandusky.

Agents were conducting an operation near Route 2 and Tiffin Avenue, when the man exited a bus and fled on foot when he saw the Border Patrol officials.

Agents later transported him to the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol Sandusky Bay Station in Catawba Island.

 

Huron County/’Pennies for Polio’

Norwalk’s Rotary Club has begun its annual “Pennies for Polio” fundraiser.

Yellow jugs are being placed at various businesses around Norwalk to collect change for the fight against Polio.

The jugs will remain in place throughout October.
