Huron County/Pedestrian seriously injured in Wakeman crash

A Greenwich woman was seriously hurt Sunday night when she was struck by a pickup truck while walking on Butler Road, near State Route 303 in Wakeman.

According to the State Highway Patrol, 30-year-old Joseph Allread of Wakeman tried to stop his F-150 before striking 22-year-old Amanda Lewis, but was unable to do so.

Lewis was flown to Cleveland Metro Hospital.

Authorities believe that alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash.

 

Ottawa County/Three people saved from boat

 Three people were saved from a sinking boat on Lake Erie Sunday afternoon. 

The U.S Coast Guard helped in the rescue, which took place about 5 miles east of Kelley’s Island.

 

Erie County/Health department to not allow medical marijuana

 The Erie County Health Department has approved a policy banning any providers at their facility from recommending medical marijuana. 

This includes the health department as well as their medical clinic, the Erie County Community Health Center.

Health commissioner Pete Schade said the department could potentially lose their funding as the federal government has not legalized marijuana. 

 

Erie County/Sandusky smoking ban repeal denied

A political action committee’s petition to overturn Sandusky’s public park smoking and tobacco ban has been rejected by city officials, due to some incorrect legal language.

‘Citizens for Responsive Government’ reportedly gathered 900 signatures as they looked to place the issue on the November ballot.

The smoking ban was enacted in April, with those in violation facing a possible low-level misdemeanor. 

 

Erie-Huron County/Road construction updates

Work is scheduled to continue this week on U.S. 250 in Erie County.  The Ohio Department of Transportation says that crews will be working on the outside lanes and shoulder from Scheid Road to State Route 113.  Traffic will be shifted to the inside lanes in each direction. ODOT expects to have the project completed by September.

Updates on some road construction projects in Huron County…Ridge Road in Bronson Township will be closed this week for bridge work, but will be re-opened next week for fair traffic.  After the fair, the road will have occasional closures. A one-day resurfacing project is planned for this Saturday on Fitchville River Road between State Route 18 and U.S. 20 in Wakeman. Work will continue for the next month or so at Pontiac Section Line Road in Sherman Township for a culvert replacement.

 

Erie County/Sandusky hosting “Touch-a-Truck” event Tuesday

The City of Sandusky’s Police, Fire and Recreation Departments will again be hosting the annual National Night Out and Touch-a-Truck event…taking place tomorrow evening.

The event not only allows kids and kids-at-heart to get hands-on with emergency vehicles and construction equipment, but is also part of “America’s Night Out Against Crime.

The fun runs from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Paper District Marina.

 

Huron County/New library lending service

The Huron County Community Library is introducing a new lending service.

“Hoopla” lets those with a library account to electronically check out books, movies and music. 

The service is free with a limit of four titles a month. 

 

Huron County/Reunion planned for Norwalk Schools

All those who ever attended a Norwalk public school are invited to the 12th annual schools reunion. 

It will take place Sunday, August, 19th from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at the Norwalk High School gym. 

Former Pleasant Street School students and staff will be recognized.
