Sandusky County/Fremont man pleads guilty to child sex offenses

A Fremont man has pled guilty to two sex offenses involving young children.

The charges relating to 65-year-old Randall Dennis are in connection with a Fremont police investigation in January involving Dennis and two girls, ages 7 and 9.


Erie County/Sandusky stove fire

No one was hurt following a kitchen fire at a Sandusky home Monday night.

Fire officials say that a man inside the home on Clinton Street was awoken by a smoke director to discover food on the stove covered in flames.

He was able to evacuate along with two other residents.


Huron County/ Norwalk safety service director resigns

Norwalk will soon be in the market for a new safety-service director.

Current director Dan Wendt has announced his resignation, effective August 24th.

Wendt, who has worked for The Maple City for the last two years, will be the next assistant city manager in Fairfield, near Cincinnati.


Huron County/Addiction crisis affecting local businesses

Fisher-Titus Occupational Health and Wellness in Norwalk is introducing a new monthly series focused on the area’s drug addiction crisis and its effects on employers.

“Within the Corporation Limit” will include information on existing problems and finding solutions for use, misuse, abuse and addiction in the workplace.

The first program, “Existing Trends” – hosted by Huron County Sheriff Todd Corbin, will be held next Wednesday from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm at Huron County Job and Family Services.

Registration is required.


Erie County/Cedar Point breaks ground on new indoor sports center

A groundbreaking ceremony took place Tuesday afternoon in Sandusky for the Cedar Point Sports Center.

The 140,000 square-foot facility costing $28 million, will house several basketball and volleyball courts as well as an indoor walking track and a sports medicine center.

Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Cedar Fair, Duff Milkie, told WLKR News that Cedar Point Sports Center will have an economic impact way beyond just Erie County…for example, Norwalk and Bellevue.

Construction work will officially begin in August with the facility expected to open its doors by December of 2019.

It will be located next to Cedar Point Sports Force Parks on Cleveland Road.


Erie County/Closed Howard Johnson motel shortly reopened

A Sandusky motel that was shut down by the Erie County Sheriff’s Department was allegedly re-opened briefly last week.

Sheriff’s deputies say the Howard Johnson on Milan Road had a new sign reading “Carefree Inn” with the motel co-owner in the office and guests checked into one room.

The motel co-owner reportedly told authorities that he had completed necessary renovations and was told he could re-open the building, which was allegedly false.

The building was originally closed in April due to a series of nuisance complaints.

The hotel was then shut down again on Monday.


Erie County/Perkins Township roundabout issues

A planned roundabout in Perkins Township has hit a minor snag.

A concrete curb and gutter have reportedly not been installed properly at the future traffic circle on West Bogart Road and Campbell Street; which will need re-installed.

Erie County officials say the extra work shouldn’t delay the project from opening on August 10th and will not cost taxpayers anything extra.
