Tiffin/Kayaker dies in accident

A man died from injuries suffered Sunday when his kayak capsized in the Sandusky River in Tiffin.

…This according to the Toledo Blade

The man was pulled from the water about 45 minutes after first responders received a call for help; but he later passed away at Mercy Health Tiffin Hospital.

His identity has not been released pending family notification.

 

Erie County/Corso’s releases statement on border patrol raid

Corso’s Flower and Garden Center released a statement late last week in regards to the border patrol raid Tuesday that led to the arrests of 100-plus employees in Sandusky and Castalia.

The company says they are fully complying with the government’s investigation, but regrets the stress and pain it had on their employees and families.

Corso’s said they are particularly troubled by reports of alleged poor treatment of employees during the arrests.

The flower and garden center went on to say that they pride themselves on being a good corporate citizen; and make it a priority to operate its business with the utmost integrity, both to employees and the community.

…And for those looking to help out the families affected by the raid, Saint Paul and Bienvenidos Templo Genesaret churches in Norwalk are collecting diapers, formula, food and monetary donations.

 

Sandusky/Man acquitted on attempted murder charges

A Sandusky man has been found not guilty of attempted murder.

26 year-old Trae Hunter was also acquitted on two counts of felonious assault in an Erie County courtroom last week.

Hunter was accused of stabbing a victim multiple times from an alleged incident in September of 2015 on West Market Street.

 

Perkins Township/Garage destroyed in small blaze

No one was hurt during a small garage fire Saturday afternoon in Perkins Township.

Authorities say they will not be able to determine the cause of the fire due to the extensive effects of the blaze at the home on East Perkins Avenue.

Smoke from the blaze reportedly spread to the home and attic.

 

Sandusky/School project over budget

Sandusky City School’s project to construct three new schools is reportedly over budget by several million dollars.

School board member Jeff Krabill told the Sandusky Register that despite the news, the school district will not ask voters for additional money.

$3 million in technology costs weren’t included in the original budget said Krabill, along with several other factors such as the rising costs of aluminum and steel.

It’s also been announced that the project to build Ontario Primary, Hancock Academy and an intermediate school has been delayed a year.

 

State News/New driver’s licenses coming

Starting July 2nd, the state of Ohio will begin issuing new driver’s Licenses that comply with federal security regulations.

Beginning in October 2020, the Ohio Drivers License will no longer be enough to go through security on commercial flights in the Country.

The change comes as part of the federal Real ID Act.

Those getting a new or renewed license will now have ID cards mailed within 10 days.  Until that arrives, a temporary identification card will be issued.

The BMV Bureau of Motor Vehicles says Ohio residents should get their new IDs soon so that they can to avoid long lines as the 2020 deadline approaches.

 

Willard/Enrichment Center celebrating 20 years

The Willard Enrichment Center will be celebrating their 20th anniversary later this month with an open house.

It will take place June 21st from 4:30 to 6:30 pm; which includes a tour of the building where guests can see renovation plans for the future.

The facility on East Tiffin Street delivers over 100 meals daily to those in need.
