-School levy issues passing: Edison, Huron

-School levy issues failing: Monroeville (60%), Willard (over 2 to 1 margin)

 

-All local city tax issues passed: Bellevue, Margaretta Township, Milan, Norwalk

 

Erie Co. – County Commissioner – Democrat

-Julie Farrar won (43%) over opponents Brad Hartung and Timothy Riesterer

 

State – Governor/Lt. Gov – Democrat:

Richard Cordray/Betty Sutton (62 %)

State – Governor/Lt. Gov – Republican:

Mike DeWine/Jon Husted (60 %)

 

State Issue 1 – Congressional redistricting maps in Ohio

Ashland/Convicted killer to be sentenced later this month

Sentencing is next for a man found guilty on four counts of aggravated murder Monday in Ashland County.

…Those charges in connection with the 2016 deaths of Stacy Stanley of Greenwich and Elizabeth Griffith of Ashland.

Jurors also found Shawn Grate guilty on all eight specifications to aggravated murder, making the death penalty a possible punishment.

The sentencing phase of the trial is scheduled to begin May 18th.

 

Vermilion/Former police officer has jail sentence appeal denied

A former Vermilion police officer is back in jail after having his appeal denied.

43-year-old Aaron Bolton has been ordered to serve the remainder of his 120-day jail sentence for assaulting a handcuffed suspect in 2015, the first such case involving a law enforcement officer in Erie County since 1989.

A judge also stripped Bolton of his peace officer license.

Bolton was originally sentenced in 2016, in which he served 18 days before filing an appeal dealing with jury speculation.

 

Erie County/Man hurt after accidentally shooting self

An Erie County man on Saturday afternoon was treated for a gunshot wound to his hand after he accidentally shot himself.

The Erie County Sheriff’s Office says the man told them he picked up a Ruger handgun from a nightstand when the gun slipped and he unintentionally squeezed the trigger.

 

Danbury/Man reportedly removes tracking device

Authorities are searching for a Danbury Township man who allegedly removed his GPS tracking bracelet after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Corey Gough has a warrant out for violating conditions of his felony bond in Ottawa County.

 

Willard/Fire and Rescue Open House

Willard Fire and Rescue has planned an open house for later this month.

Happening next Saturday, May 19th, the free event will include fire station tours, as well as Life-Flight and Jaws of Life demonstrations.

It will run from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.
