Sandusky man arrested after allegedly breaking window into home

A Sandusky man has been charged with felony burglary for allegedly breaking through a window at a York Township home after claiming someone was going to shoot him.

According to the Fremont News-Messenger, 30 year-old Micah Risner reportedly broke into the house on County Road 296 near Bellevue around midnight Thursday when the homeowner would not let him inside after knocking.

No other person was found.

 

Firelands Regional Medical Center now restricting visitors due to flu

Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky has started limiting visitors due to a rise in the flu across the area and state.

Visitors are restricted to healthy members of the patient’s immediate family or the patient’s immediate support person, age 18 and up.

The policy was first put in place in 2014 but hasn’t been needed the last two winters.

Erie County has had 26 hospitalizations for the flu this season; which is above average.

Huron County has had 20 flu-related hospital stays so far.

 

18 year-old Perkins woman charged in stabbing

An 18 year-old Perkins Township woman has been charged with felony felonious assault after allegedly stabbing a 21 year-old man following an argument.

Brooklyn Flournoy also faces a domestic violence and tampering with evidence charge from the incident Wednesday afternoon at an apartment on Pioneer Trail in Perkins Township.

The victim was treated and released from Firelands Regional Medical Center.

 

Blaze destroys home garage in Sandusky

A home garage in Sandusky was destroyed in a fire early Thursday afternoon.

No one was hurt in the blaze which reportedly started on East Larchmont Drive after a resident left on a kerosene space heater while they ran errands.

No vehicles were in the garage.

 

Vermilion police receive misguided social media complaints

Not us.

That’s what the Vermilion Police Department told a number of visitors to their Facebook page on Tuesday following a number of ill-advised negative comments and complaints.

The misdirected backlash was in response to an incident involving police and the arrest of a teacher in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana during a recent public forum.

 

Ernsthausen Community Center to be open 24 hours soon

The Ernsthausen Community Center in Norwalk will soon be open 24/7.

24-hour access will begin March 1st; making it one of only a few rec centers in Ohio to offer such hours.

The gymnasium, track, cardio and weight rooms along with the family locker room will be available 24 hours.  The pools will be locked.

An updated security system is being installed.

The rec center also plans to put in a new splash pad by early June.
