New judge appointed in O’Connell case

A familiar judge has been appointed to preside over the criminal case of former Sandusky County Sheriff’s detective Sean O’Connell.

The Ohio Supreme Court has selected Visiting Judge Patricia Cosgrove, who also presided over former Sandusky County Sheriff Kyle Overmyer’s 2016 case; in which Overmyer was sentenced to four years in prison on felony drug and theft charges following a plea deal.

Judge Robert Hart recently disqualified himself from the case; stating a rule related to judge’s impartiality, saying that he’s worked closely with the sheriff’s office in the past.

O’Connell faces criminal charges related to the homicide investigation into the 2015 death of Heather Bogle.

His trial is set to begin in late March.
