Sandusky man dies in one-vehicle accident

A 50-year-old Sandusky man lost his life in a one-vehicle crash early Saturday morning in Perkins Township.

Kurt Fischer was killed when his vehicle went off the right side of the road on Columbus Avenue, north of Strub Road, and eventually hit a utility pole.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the accident.

 

New executive director named at Huron County Chamber of Commerce

Kelly Lippus has been named the new executive director of the Huron County Chamber of Commerce.

Lippus, who will begin her duties on January 2nd, takes over for Melissa James, who resigned in October after 16 years in the position.

The 2003 Huron High School grad formerly worked at Gaymont Nursing Center in Norwalk in admissions and marketing.

 

Willard bomb threat under investigation

Authorities are investigating a called-in bomb threat at a factory in Willard on Thursday evening.

The caller was anonymous but is believed to be from a disgruntled employee, who will likely face criminal charges.

The MTD Products on Conwell Avenue was safely evacuated with nothing found inside the building.

 

New JFS director in Huron County

There’s a new director of the Huron County Department of Job and Family Services.

Jennifer Reed started her new role this past Friday; as she works alongside Jill Nolan, who is retiring later this month.

Reed, who was born in Bellevue and resides in Bowling Green, previously worked as an assistant prosecutor in Erie and Lucas counties.

 

Firefighter’s Chili Cookoff winners…

The Norwalk Fire Department won first place in the 17th annual K96/WLKR Firefighter’s Chili Cookoff Saturday night at Lyman Harbor in Sandusky.

The Huron Fire Department placed 2nd with Wellington finishing 3rd.

The Berlin Township Fire Department took home the “people’s choice” award.
