Huron company awarded medicinal marijuana cultivation state license

One of 13 exclusive medical marijuana state licenses for cultivation has been awarded to a company in Huron.

O-P-C Cultivation will grow marijuana for medicinal purposes at a soon to be built facility off Rye Beach Road within the city’s corporate park.

Construction is expected to begin in the near future and must be complete by September of next year, due to a state stipulation.

The 75,000 square foot facility could create as many as 72 jobs.


No one hurt in Collins fire which heavily damaged home

An electrical fire caused substantial damage to a two-story home in Collins on Thursday morning.

No one was home during the blaze; but a family consisting of a mother and two daughters have been displaced.

The three are expected to stay with nearby relatives.


Road breaks apart on Ohio 2 exit ramp near Marblehead

ODOT has closed the Ohio 2 exit for Lakeside and Marblehead near the Edison Memorial Bridge due to severe road damage.

The road along the off-ramp between Route’s 2 and 269 broke free from the pavement and slid down the hillside; likely related to soil erosion.

State officials say the ramp will be closed in the meantime while they plan on how to repair the road; with hopes of having it back open by the summer.


DeWine and Husted to run together for state governor

Some news on the campaign trail relating to Ohio’s race for governor in 2018…

State Attorney General Mike DeWine and Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted have announced they will be running mates; with Husted as the lieutenant governor part of the ticket.

Meanwhile, TV talk show host and former mayor of Cincinnati Jerry Springer has decided to stay out of the 2018 governor’s race.


Norwalk’s Gross is new CEO of Fisher-Titus

Norwalk’s Matthew Gross is the new CEO of the Fisher-Titus Health system.

Today will be Gross’ first day in the new position; as he will work alongside Lorna Strayer, whom is retiring as president and CEO in October.

Gross has spent nine years on the Fisher-Titus board of directors, where’s he been chairman for the last 3-and-a-half years.

Christmas event tomorrow in Plymouth

Plymouth is hosting a “Christmas in the Village” event on Saturday.

The indoor-outdoor Christmas market will feature over 50 artisans and crafter as well as food trucks and Polar Express rides for the kids.

The event gets underway at 10:00 am.
