Greenwich man killed in three-vehicle/pedestrian accident

A 26-year-old Greenwich man was killed in a three-vehicle/pedestrian accident in Huron County last night.

Anthony Rocca was in the roadway on US 224 in Greenwich Township when he was struck by three different vehicles including a semi-truck.

No other injuries were reported.


County-Wide Disaster Drill to be held today at Firelands Regional Medical Center

More than 15 agencies and businesses from Erie County will participate today in a full-scale emergency exercise at Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky.

It will take place from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm with law enforcement, fire personnel and vehicles to be located inside and outside the hospital.

The exercise allows participants to work through what they would do in a real disaster.

Firelands has ensured that patient care will not be disrupted.


Willard man sent to jail for gross sexual imposition

A 56-year-old Willard man has been arrested on gross sexual imposition charges.

Frank Burton is suspected to have been involved in an incident two months ago with a 12-year-old girl.


Health Department workers in Erie County to receive pay increase

Workers for the Erie County Health Department are set to receive a raise in pay.

The health board has approved a two-percent pay increase for nearly the entire staff; which has 110 full-time and part-time employees.


Durst rape case to have special prosecutor

Sandusky County has appointed a special prosecutor for the rape case involving alleged serial rapist McClain Durst.

Wood County prosecutor Paul Dobson will replace Sandusky County prosecutor Tim Braun.

Durst’s lawyer had requested to dismiss Braun because Durst had allegedly discussed details of the case with Braun last year while Braun was a private defense attorney.


Lower electric bills coming to some people and businesses to Sandusky

Sandusky city commissioners have agreed to a new electric aggregation deal which will lead to savings on electric bills.

Some small businesses and residents within city limits will see their electric bills decrease in 2018.

The new three-year contract with First-Energy goes into effect next April.


Norwalk to not bring back MacFarland next season

Norwalk will not bring back veteran varsity football head coach Chris MacFarland next season.

In a statement, the school said they felt their program needed a new leader and a new voice for their young athletes.

In nine seasons with the Truckers, MacFarland had a 49-44 record with one league championship and two trips to the playoffs.
