Border patrol makes arrests near Port Clinton

 The U.S. Customs and Border Patrol’s Sandusky Bay Station in Port Clinton is reporting two recent arrests of international gang members.

One member, an El Salvadorian male, was arrested during a traffic stop late last month.  He was in trouble in his home country for possessing firearms.

The other member was taken in earlier this month east of the Sandusky Bay station.  The male, who admitted to being in the U.S. illegally, has a felony conviction for making terroristic threats.


Maple City Ice drivers on strike

Today marks day number six of the strike by eight drivers at Maple City Ice in Norwalk.

The strike reportedly deals with the employee’s displeasure over the company’s pension fund.

Maple City Ice has close to 100 employees with locations also in Elyria and Mansfield.


Sandusky man faces OVI charge after crash

A 20 year-old Sandusky man faces OVI-related charges after crashing his car into part of a home on Monday morning.

Authorities found the vehicle of Kaymani Banks stuck in the foundation of a house in the 8400 block of Milan Road in Huron Township.


Collection event for Hurricane Harvey victims to continue

One truck filled with supplies has already been sent to Texas from Norwalk in hopes of filling another truck this week.

Items will again be collected for Hurricane Harvey victims today through Friday from 3:00 to 6:00 pm in the St. Paul parking lot.

Organizers are looking for items such as non-perishable food, water, cleaning supplies and diapers.


Huron County ‘Reach Our Youth’ executive director retires

Huron County ‘Reach Our Youth’ (R-O-Y) Executive Director Kathy Noftz retired last week after 34 years in the Huron County Juvenile Court system.

Sarah Simmons, a former R-O-Y mentor, takes over as new director, after working with the Norwalk Area United Fund for close to five years.

The R-O-Y program provides volunteer mentors for youth ages 6 to 18.


Osborn MetroPark hosting “Take a Hike” event this Sunday

Osborn MetroPark in Huron is hosting their annual “Go Take a Hike” program this Sunday.

The free event running from 3:00 to 5:00 pm includes picturesque hikes, music, food and many children’s activities.
