SPORTS HEADLINES – MONDAY, JULY 22ND

MLB BASEBALL – INDIANS TAKE 2 OF 3 IN HOME SERIES AGAINST ROYALS

Cleveland beat Kansas City 5-4 on Sunday afternoon

-Francisco Lindor tied the game at 2-2 with a 2-run home run in the 3rd inning, his 16th of the season.

-Jose Ramirez put the Tribe in front 3-2 with a solo home run in the 6th inning, his 10th of the year.

-Tribe rookie Zach Plesac allowed two runs on four hits with two walks over 6 innings; earning his first win since June 23rd

-Cleveland finished 7-3 on their 10-game homestand. 

-The Indians trail Minnesota by 3 games in the AL Central Division heading into play tonight after the Twins won on Sunday against Oakland.  Minnesota opens up a 3-game home series tonight against the New York Yankees. 

-The Indians head north of the border to take on the Toronto Blue Jays in a 3-game series starting tonight at 6:35/7:07 pm – LIVE on 95.3 WLKR.  Mike Clevinger takes the mound tonight for the Tribe.

MLB BASEBALL NEWS – KLUBER BULLPEN, SALAZAR REHAB START, HALL OF FAME

Corey Kluber pitched his second bullpen session on Sunday, throwing 30 pitches, while working his way back from a broken right forearm.  Kluber is scheduled to throw another bullpen session on Wednesday.

Danny Salazar pitched 3+ innings for Triple-A Columbus on Sunday at Buffalo…striking out 6 while giving up 3 hits with 1 walk.  It was the 5th injury rehab start for Salazar, who’s looking to get healthy and back with the big league club.

-The Baseball Hall of Fame Class of 2019 was enshrined in Cooperstown, New York on Sunday. The class included:

-Outfielder and DH most notably for the White Sox Harold Baines

-Starting pitcher for the Blue Jays and Phillies, the late Roy Halladay

-Seattle designated hitter Edgar Martinez,

-Starting pitcher for Baltimore and the Yankees Mike Mussina

-Yankees closer Mariano Rivera

-Closer for multiple teams Lee Smith

FRONTIER LEAGUE BASEBALL – CRUSHERS WIN 2 OF 3 IN HOME SERIES

Washington Wild Things defeated Lake Erie 5-0 on Sunday afternoon

-The loss snapped a 7-game winning streak for Lake Erie.  The Crushers have today off.  

NBA NEWS – VETERAN KORVER SIGNS WITH NEW TEAM

Former Cleveland Cavalier and NBA vet Kyle Korver has signed a 1-year, $2.6 million deal with the Milwaukee Bucks.

-Korver, who’ll be entering his 17th season, is reuniting with his former head coach in Atlanta, Mike Budenholzer, where he played 3 seasons.

MEN’S GOLF – BRITISH OPEN RESULTS

Native of Northern Ireland, Shane Lowry, won The British Open championship on Sunday in his home country with a score of -15

Tommy Fleetwood of England finished in 2nd place, 6 shots back of Lowry (-9). 

Americans Tony Finau (-7) and Brooks Kopeka (-6) came in 3rd and 4th place, respectively.
