SPORTS HEADLINES – FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 15TH

High school football playoff action continues this weekend with Regional Semi-final games…

-95.3 WLKR will have Norwalk versus Sandusky tonight at Bellevue…along with St. Paul against Patrick Henry on Saturday night in Fremont.  Coverage for both games begin at 6:30, with kickoffs at 7:00 pm. 

On sister station WEOL in Lorain County… Avon Lake faces Wadsworth on the air at AM 930 and WEOL.com “Stream 1” and Avon takes on Benedictine on WEOL.com “Stream 2”.   

-Also tonight in the high school football playoffs, Seneca East battles East Knox at Marion Harding High School. 

-On Saturday night, Clyde faces Shelby in Tiffin and Oak Harbor takes on Pemberville Eastwood at Milbury Lake.

In the NFL, the Cleveland Browns picked up a victory at home last night…

-Cleveland defeated Pittsburgh 21-7 at First Energy Stadium.  Baker Mayfield threw for close to 200 yards and 2 scores as the Browns improved to 4-and-6 on the season.

-The game ended on an ugly note with a nasty brawl between the two rivals.  Browns defensive lineman Myles Garrett was among 3 players ejected after ripping the helmet off Steelers’ quarterback Mason Rudolph and hitting him in the head with it. 

In college football…

-Kent State beat Buffalo 30-27 and Pitt defeated North Carolina 34-27 in overtime last night. 

-Tonight, Marshall hosts Louisiana Tech and Fresno State visits San Diego State.

-On Saturday, number-2 Ohio State travels to Rutgers for a 3:30 kickoff (live on 95.3 WLKR beginning at 2:00 pm with pregame coverage).  The Buckeyes are 52 points favorites. 

In the NBA last night, Cleveland fell at home to Miami…

-The Heat beat the Cavaliers 108-97 thanks to 23 points by rookie Kendrick Nunn.

-The Cavs were led by Kevin Love’s 21 points and 10 rebounds. 

In NBA news…

-Carmello Anthony is reportedly returning to the league after being away from the game for over a year.  Anthony is expected to sign a one-year deal with the Portland Trail-Blazers. 

The MVPs of the 2019 Major League Baseball season were announced last night…

-Angels outfielder Mike Trout won the award for a third time in the American League.  Dodgers outfielder Cody Bellinger was the National League winner. 

In the NHL, Columbus is on home ice tonight…

-The Blue Jackets host the St. Louis Blues at 7:00 pm. 

The 2019 NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series season wraps up on Sunday…

-Three members of Joe Gibbs Racing…Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin and Martin Truex Jr. along Kevin Harvick from Stewart-Haas Racing are the four drivers who have the opportunity to take home a cup championship at Miami-Homestead Speedway.  The race will be broadcast live on K96, starting at 2:00 pm.
