More information known on cause of ride failure in fatal accident at State Fair

We now know a little more about what caused the fatal ride crash at the Ohio State Fair.

The manufacturer of the “Fireball” blames ‘beam corrosion’ for the accident that left one person dead and 7 others hurt.

The “Fireball” was 18 years old.


Suspect to be arraigned today in Sandusky shooting

The suspect in Wednesday’s fatal shooting in Sandusky is scheduled to be arraigned today in Sandusky Municipal Court.

30-year-old Joel Miles of East Cleveland and Sandusky has been charged with the murder of 46-year-old Anthony Pearson of Sandusky in the MacArthur Park area.

Pearson’s body was found in the driver’s seat of a truck that was parked on Parkview Boulevard last Wednesday night.


Norwalk man seriously injured in cycle crash

A 53-year-old Norwalk man was seriously hurt in a motorcycle crash Saturday night.

Danny Mowry was going eastbound on U.S. 20 near Norwalk Street in Ridgefield Township when he drove off the road and struck a utility pole guide wire and stop sign.

He was flown to a Toledo hospital for treatment. Mowry was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.


Four people charged with helping inmates escape

Four people have been arrested for allegedly helping two Sandusky County Jail inmates escape a month ago.

According to the Fremont News Messenger, Christopher Torres of Norwalk, Sarah Dannenberger of Clyde and Charles Teeple and Joshua Newsome; both of Bellevue, were all charged with felony counts of obstructing justice.

Jordan Chapman and Mickey Hardy escaped on July 17th from Fremont; and were recaptured in Toledo a few days later.


Huron man admits to stealing check from title office

A man from Huron has admitted to stealing a $2,800 check and stack of paperwork including car titles last week from the Erie County title department in Sandusky.

23-year-old Colin Hardman faces a fifth-degree felony theft charge.


State Route 4 OVI checkpoint results from Friday

Results are in from Friday night’s State Patrol OVI Checkpoint in Erie County on State Route 4.  One motorist passing through the checkpoint was found to be impaired.

Another two arrests were made for illegal drugs along with an open container violation.

Over 500 cars passed through the two-hour checkpoint on State Route 4, south of Perkins Avenue in Perkins Township.


Norwalk working on school pedestrian areas

Preliminary work is underway in Norwalk on improvements to pedestrian areas near League Elementary, Main Street Intermediate, Maplehurst Elementary and Norwalk Catholic schools.

Among the improvements are “no turn on red” overhead signs as well as repainting crosswalks.

Norwalk recently received $125,000 in state money for the project with the remaining $26,000 expected to be covered by city funds.

The work will likely be done by no later than September.


Norwalk cheerleaders headed to the Citrus Bowl

Six Norwalk High School cheerleaders have earned the honors of cheering at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida.

Freshman Madison Shutt, sophomore Makilee Ball, junior Alyssa Faley and seniors Kylee Edney, Maya Reineck, Beth Stockmaster all received high enough scores during a recent try-out with instructors from Elite Cheerleading.

The six girls have been invited to cheer at the Citrus Bowl halftime show on New Year’s Day as well as spend time at Disney World and Universal Studios.
